"This inaugural lecture by Sarah Coakley, delivered at the University of Cambridge on 13th October 2009, considers the striking cultural dominance, in the latter part of the twentieth century, of a violent and negative rendition of the notion of sacrifice. Coakley asks whether it is a coincidence that at the same time, philosophers of religion have tended to be in notable retreat from bold public claims about the rationality of Christian truth. In contrast to this double trend, and in riposte to the 'New Atheism' of the secularists, Coakley argues that the most recent deliveries from evolutionary biology augur a vision of sacrifice which is both rationally defensible and biologically grounded. Evolutionary dynamics, religious practice and hermeneutics, and new arguments for the rationality of belief belong together; and this nexus of themes demands the closest attention as the world confronts the profoundest ecological crisis it has yet known"--

Michael J. Almeida presents a bold new defence of the existence of God. He argues that entrenched principles in philosophical theology which have served as basic assumptions in apriori, atheological arguments are in fact philosophical dogmas. Almeida argues that not only are such principles false - they are necessarily false.

Der Autor bietet eine Studie zur seinsgeschichtlichen Entfaltung der christlichen Zentralbotschaft von der Liebe Gottes. Ausgehend vom Begriff der „Agape“ wird die kirchliche Wirklichkeit in ihrer Spannung zwischen Ganz-Sein und Seins-Krise erschlossen. Indem dabei die Möglichkeiten der Agape voll ausgelotet werden, lässt der Autor die Vision der originalen christlichen Seins-Alternative wieder aufleben. Als die Versöhnungsbereitschaft Gottes weist die Gottesliebe insbesondere der Ökumene einen verheißungsvollen Weg und lässt erkennen, wie das Christentum zu neuer Glaubhaftigkeit und Zukunftsfähigkeit finden kann. The author presents a study on the ontological historical development of the central Christian message of God’s love. Working from the concept of “Agape”, the reality of the Church is discovered in its tension between the wholeness of being and the crisis of being. By fully developing the possibilities offered by agape, the author resuscitates the vision of the alternative Christian way of being. As His willingness for reconciliation, God’s love offers ecumenism in particular a promising way forwards and shows how Christianity can discover a new credibility and future confidence.
